Welcome to the New LSS Academy

by Ron Pereira on February 18th, 2008

As regular readers have no doubt noticed, we have completely redesigned LSS Academy. This new design, which was created by the guys over at Unique Blog Designs, is packed full of new features.

Lights, Camera, Action!

The feature I am most excited about is the video section on the home page. While I know I am not going to win any Oscar awards for my first “one piece flow” video I am really excited about being able to communicate with you all via a new medium.

And I promise to improve the quality and interaction of future videos as I learn more about it. Let me tell you, talking into a camera is a lot harder than typing on these keys! It may not show but I spent hours working on this first video! Hopefully the learning curve will level off sooner than later.

LSS Academy Forum

We will also be launching a new forum allowing people to ask questions, share ideas, network, or just stay in touch. So please be sure to drop by to say hello.

Best of LSS Academy

Another new feature is a “Best of LSS Academy” widget on the home page. Here you will be able to access some of the more popular articles as determined by page views and comments. My goal was to make these articles as accessible as possible.

There are a few other new features like a store page where I will share with you some recommended reading and other items related to lean and six sigma.

FREE Book

Finally, I am excited to offer you a FREE book dedicated to lean manufacturing. The book is made up of previous articles from the blog that have been slightly modified in such a way as to flow more like a book. So please be sure to download the book. And feel free to share it was as many people as you wish.

Stick with Us

We will no doubt be working out some bugs this week so please hang in there with us. If you notice an issue with anything please drop me an email as various browsers may react differently to the new template.

As I said, this is the first step in what I hope to be a huge year for LSS Academy. I have some things in the works that are big. Real big. So please stay tuned for a fun and exciting 2008.

Thanks Pete! It was quite the chore to get it all working… and there are still a few kinks to work out. But we are close.

    Hi Ron -

I’ve been reading sporadically for a while now, and I really appreciate the site. Your post frequency and depth make for good, digestible, bite-sized chunks for a busy management student, and the redesign looks pretty good, too.

A couple thoughts about that, in the interest of continuous improvement - have you thought of putting previous/next post links and/or a “recent posts” box in the right column of the individual post pages? I think it would make the site easier to navigate - that way once I click on an interesting article link on the home page I can get to others immediately without going back to either the homepage or the blog page first.

    Thanks again!

Hmmm. Great idea Nathanael. One thing that will help is when the “Related Posts” plugin is working as that will offer 5 posts similar to the one you just read. It is not working just yet.

But I like your idea. Let me see what the nice guys over at Unique Blog Designs can do!

Thanks for the nice words and for reading.

Hi, Ron! Congratulations on the new layout and the exciting changes you’ve lined up for LSS! Wow, you’re improving fast! You’re really practicing lean, huh… ;) Seriously, yeah I’ve been reading your posts and I enjoy reading them. Your posts are technical but you are always successful in injecting personal insights. Keep at it!

Thanks again for the great posts which are enjoyable to read. Not that the old format of LSS Academy is bad, this is better. Congrats to you and look forward for the small bites of wisdom to my email !!

Excellent job … thanks. I’d like to see a tour of a production line outlining as many LSS concerns as possible (i.e. 5S, 8 wastes, variation / deviations, visibility, flow, project management, Kaizen, change management, statistical tools, etc.). KN

    Hi Kim,

Let me see what I can work up in the future. Stay tuned and thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Ron,
Unique Blog Designs is working on redesigning my own site and offered your site up as an example of their work. I am really glad they did! Although my main focuses are business integration, SCM and PM, I found the information presented on your sight fascinating and very educating. I spend a lot of time in factories, and wish a lot of the plant managers would subscribe. This could make my life much easier!

    I am definately subscribing.

    Thanks
    Chris

Thanks for the kind words Chris! The guys at UBD did a great job (at least I think so). You are in great hands. Take care and look forward to seeing your new design.

Looks great, Ron. I especially like the video section. Do you plan on posting videos regularly? Multimedia content is such an attractive feature for a web site. I look forward to checking out the forum soon.
